Written Statement: Responses to the consultation on the review of the Local Government Ethical Standards Framework

In March I published a consultation on the Welsh Government’s response to the recommendations of the independent review by Richard Penn of the ethical standards framework (“the framework”) for local government.

The review concluded the current framework is ‘fit for purpose’ and works well in practice.  However, it suggested a few amendments could lead to a greater emphasis in the framework on prevention of complaints, improve complaint handling and result in ethical standards being further enhanced.

The consultation also sought views on a small number of matters subsequently raised in discussions with stakeholders.

Today I have published the Summary of the Consultation Responses. The consultation received 31 responses and I am grateful to all the respondents for submitting their considered views. Overall, broad support was expressed for the proposals.
