Man jailed for vicious attack outside station – Sheffield

A 49-year-old man has been jailed after he viciously attacked another man leaving him with no memory of the assault.

Following a British Transport Police investigation, Andrew Ford, of White Thorns View, Sheffield, was jailed for 36 weeks by Sheffield Magistrates on Tuesday 27 June after he pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187 and £82 costs.

The court heard how, on Thursday 30 March, Ford and the victim were fighting near the taxi rank outside Sheffield station when Ford threw him to the ground and straddled him before repeatedly punching him in the head and headbutting him several times.

When his victim became lifeless Ford continued the savage attack, raining punches on his head.

Ford was arrested shortly afterwards and made no comment throughout interview.

Investigating officer Sergeant Roy Percival said: “This was a horrific and sustained attack on someone who was clearly unable to defend himself.

“Ford’s actions have rightly landed him in jail where he will hopefully have time to consider his behaviour.”
