Detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Wanstead Park have released an e-fit of the suspect.

The woman, aged in her 60s, was attacked in July 2022 at approximately 14.00hrs while walking along a secluded gravel footpath near to Ilford Golf Course.

She has been supported by a Sexual Offences Investigative Techniques (SOIT) officer since the outset of the investigation.

Detective Constable Lauren Weatherley leads the investigation and is asking for anyone who recognises the man to contact police without delay.

She said: “We have been investigating this offence for a number of months and unfortunately we have not identified a suspect. We continue to investigate and are doing everything we can to secure justice for the victim-survivor.

“Please look at this image carefully. Could you have been in the location of the park on Friday, 8 July 2022? Do you live or work in the area and do you recognise this man?

“Please share any information or concerns you have with us as it could be the break in the case we are looking for.”

At this stage, officers do not believe this attack is linked to any other reported incidents.

Officers across the Met are progressing rape investigations every day and we are committed to targeting predatory men and preventing further harm to women and girls.

The Met is undertaking a series of measures to improve victim-survivors’ trust and confidence, as well as the number of cases brought to court.

Anyone with information which could assist detectives in this investigation is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 3994/08Jul22.
