4 January 2024 20:57 UPDATE: Man charged with murder in Lewisham Detectives investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman have charged a man with her murder

A man will appear in court charged with the murder of a woman in Lewisham.

Shane Simmonds, 38 (10.02.85) of Parbury Road, SE23 appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4 January charged with murder.

He has also been charged with two counts of rape in relation to a separate female.

He was remanded in custody to attend the Old Bailey on Monday, 8 January.

This follows an incident where a man attended a south London police station in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 January claiming to have harmed a woman at an address on Parbury Road.

Officers attended and found the body of a 32-year-old woman. While formal identification awaits, we can confirm the deceased is Tia Simmonds who lived at the address.

Tia’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

A special post-mortem examination is due to be held at Greenwich Mortuary on Friday, 5 January.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “As I have previously stated, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder. This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Tia’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.”
