A man has been jailed for a shooting in Haringey after detectives identified him via CCTV.
Charles Ezbon, 33 (20.02.91) of Park Lane, Tottenham, pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm and grievous bodily harm in March this year.
He was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 14 June to a life sentence with a minimum term of nine years’ imprisonment.
Detective Constable Rhiain John, who led the investigation said: “Charles is a dangerous offender with links to gangs, which is believed to be the motivation behind this incident.
“I’m pleased to see that the sentence given today means he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
In the early hours of Sunday, 24 December 2023 police attend North Middlesex hospital following reports that a man had been admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The 26-year-old’s injuries were later assessed as not life-threatening.
An investigation was launched and officers established that the victim had been injured outside a supermarket in Cedar Road, N17.
CCTV showed Charles shooting the man after an altercation at around 05:00hrs.
The images clearly captured Charles and as a result officers were quickly able to identify him.
A manhunt was launched and Charles was caught as he tried to escape a friend’s home in Stanford Way, Streatham SW16 on 8 January.
He was arrested and taken into custody.
Despite the victim not willing to support police action officers progressed with their enquiries. A shell casing recovered at the scene assisted in linking Charles to the shooting. With the offence caught on CCTV, it left him with no choice but to plead guilty.
He was charged and remanded on Tuesday, 9 January
