A Met officer is due to appear in court this afternoon charged with rape and other offences.

PC James Murray, attached to Met Operations, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with:

-Rape

-Non-fatal strangulation

-Actual bodily harm

-Misconduct in public office

-Possession of a firearm (PAVA spray)

-Four counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place

The offences are alleged to have taken place between January and August this year; a number of them are reported to have taken place on duty.

A woman, who is known to PC Murray, is receiving support from specially trained officers.

PC Murray was arrested on Wednesday, 16 August and taken into custody.

He was immediately suspended from duty.

A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
