15 October 2023 18:35 Update on arrests and investigations following demonstration in central London We will look at both Public Order and Counter Terrorism legislation when identifying any potential offences

Today there have been a number of small events in central London and all have passed off without any significant issues.

We continue to review footage and material from yesterday’s demonstration and the events of yesterday evening.

Where there is evidence of criminal offences having been committed, we will work to identify and arrest those responsible.

We will look at both Public Order and Counter Terrorism legislation when identifying any potential offences, and officers from both commands are working closely together.

Three of the 15 people arrested during the protest in central London on Saturday, 14 October, have been charged with criminal offences and one has been issued with a penalty notice for disorder. Three others have been referred to Youth Offending Teams.

Aldib Nour, 20, (28/09/03) of St George’s Circus, SE1 was arrested on King Charles Street. He has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place and bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 2 November.

Robert McKenzie, 68, (13/09/55) of Long Stratton, Norfolk was charged with intentionally causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress. He has also been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 2 November.

Ibrahim Hlaiyil, 38, (10/09/85) of Littleton Road, HA1 was charged with failing to comply with a requirement (under Section 60aa of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act) to remove a face covering. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 November.

A penalty notice for disorder (PND) was issued to a 20-year-old man from Waltham Forest for throwing a firework in a public place.

Three juveniles were referred to Youth Offending Teams for, respectively, assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a firework in a public place and failing to comply with a requirement to remove a face covering.

Enquiries continue in respect of four males who have been bailed, three of whom were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and the fourth for threatening behaviour. A man arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to a police vehicle has been released under investigation.

Three of those arrested have been released without further action.

There is no place for hate in London and we will use the law to ensure anyone who engages in such behaviour is held to account.
