A man has been convicted of seriously injuring a child in a collision in East Ham.

Eesah Ahmed, 33 (01.01.90), of Newham, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 June where he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was bailed and will be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 11 July.

Police were called at 13:26hrs on Sunday, 11 June to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Barking Road, near to the junction with Melbourne Road.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

The pedestrian, a 12-year-old boy, was taken to an east London hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical, but stable, condition. His family have been informed.

Ahmed, who was driving the car, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

As a result of the work of detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, he was charged the following day and remanded in custody.
