14 July 2023 21:25 Man charged following fatal collision in Clapham A 19-year-old man will appear in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Detectives have charged a man after a pedestrian was killed in a collision in Clapham.

Wahab Zahid, 19 (28.10.03), of St Mark’s Place, Dagenham, was arrested on Thursday, 13 July.

He was charged on Friday, 14 July with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 15 July.

Police were called at 02:41hrs on Sunday, 9 July following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Clapham High Street, SW9.

Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and medics from the London Ambulance Service.

Despite the effort of emergency services, a 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.
