An arrest has been made after a woman in her 60s was attacked in her home in Newham on the afternoon of Saturday, 10 June.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, responsible for policing in Newham, said: “Thanks to diligent and fast paced investigative work officers from the Met’s Predatory Offender Unit carried out a successful manhunt and made an arrest within 48 hours of this report being made to us.

“Specialist support is being given to the woman and we will continue to ensure her wellbeing following this awful ordeal.

“We will do everything in our power to track and bring to justice men who target women and girls – if you have been the victim of an assault whether that is recently or in months or years past, please report this to us and have confidence you will be listened to.”

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday 12 June on suspicion of GBH and attempted sexual assault. He remains in custody at an east London police station.

Enquiries led by detectives from the Met’s North East Basic Command Unit continue.
