A further 23 people have been charged after Met officers responded to Just Stop Oil protests in London.

They were charged with breaching Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023 and were due to appear in court on Thursday, 2 November.

Officers were called at 09:04hrs on Wednesday, 1 November to reports of protesters blocking Earl’s Court Road, near to the junction with Cromwell Road.

We were on scene within four minutes and arrests began a short time later. A total of 36 people were arrested and the road was re-opened within 28 minutes.

The other 13 people who were arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A total of 98 people have been arrested in connection with Just Stop Oil protests in London this week and 54 people have been charged.

We expect protect activity to continue over the coming weeks and officers will be ready to respond to any further disruption.

What is Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023?

Officers can make arrests under Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023 if a protester intentionally or recklessly interferes with the use or operation of any key national infrastructure.

An arrest can be made if a protester disproportionately interferes with ‘road transport infrastructure’. Our officers take into account a person’s right to protest before making an arrest.
