Detectives investigating a double murder in Ilford have charged a man.

[E] Chibiuke Ohanweh, 21 (28.04.02), of Heath Park Road, Romford is due to appear in custody on Thursday, 25 May at Bromley Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

Ohanweh was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, 24 May, taken into custody and later charged as above.

Police were called at 00:16hrs on Tuesday, 25 October 2022, by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a shooting inside a house on Henley Road in Ilford.

Armed officers attended along with local officers and paramedics. Three men were found with gunshot injuries.

Saydi Abu Sheikh, aged 23, and Zakariya Jeilani Mohamed, aged 32, who were both from Ilford, died at the scene.

A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, where he remained for some time in a serious condition. He has since been discharged from hospital.

The families of all three men continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Four men have been charged as part of the same investigation:

[A] Ayaani Ali Adan, 20 (24.02.03) of East Street, Barking was arrested on 11 November 2022 and charged with:

– Two counts of murder;
– One count of attempted murder;
– Possession with intent to supply a Class B drug;
– Possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life;
– Possession of a knife in public;
– Possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

[B] Zain Mirza, 20 (29.06.02), of Third Avenue, Newham, was arrested on 23 November 2022 and [C] Mahad Gouled, 21 (29.10.01), of Charles Street, Enfield, was arrested on 24 November 2022. They were both charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

[D] Zakarie Mohamed, 18 (22.09.04) of Kensal Rise, Kensington, was arrested on 12 April and subsequently charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

A provisional trial date has been set for October 2023.
